Foreign consumption accounted for 55% of tourism turnover
During Easter week, between 13 and 20 April 2025, foreign consumption in Portugal accounted for 55% of the total turnover recorded in the Hotel, Tourist Activities and Catering sectors.
Trade in 2024 increased by 10% in turnover
In 2024, Portugal saw significant growth compared to 2023, with an increase of 10% in turnover and 15% in the number of transactions. Despite this, the average purchase price fell slightly, from €33.78 in 2023 to €32.39 in 2024.
Shopping centres had their best month of 2024 in December
The days with the highest turnover growth compared to the daily average in 2024 were 23 December (+76%) and 21 December (+60%), driven by the Christmas period.
Black Month boosts trade with 16% growth in turnover
During Black Month, there was a 27.8% increase in turnover. Black Friday saw an increase of 30.35% compared to 2023, while the following Saturday saw an increase of 31.31% and Sunday saw an increase of 39.37%.
Impact of tourism in Portugal: turnover and transactions down
Between 1 June and 1 September, there was a decrease of 11% in invoicing, with a decrease of 3% in foreign invoicing and 14% in invoicing of national origin, and a reduction of 10% in the number of transactions compared to 2023.
