To make contactless payments, all you have to do is bring your card, smartphone or other smartwatch close to the payment terminal. In this type of transaction, you don't need to enter the card PIN for purchases of less than 50 euros and if the overall amount of 150 euros has not yet been reached.
If you exceed 50 euros, or after 5 transactions, you are always asked to enter your PIN code to validate the transaction.

Payment using Contactless technology follows all the security criteria of international payment systems and operates on the EMV standard, commonly known as Chip and Pin. For security reasons, Contactless transactions without entering a PIN are limited to €50, up to an accumulated maximum set by the card issuer (usually €150). Once this amount has been reached, the PIN code must be entered to validate the transaction. Occasionally, and as an additional security measure, you may be asked to enter the card PIN in random Contactless transactions, even if the defined maximum amount is respected.
